On Self-Binding

By Robin Kane

On Self-Binding traces the quiet persistence of return, the gravitational pull toward forms the mind already knows how to inhabit. Drawing from Jungian thought, where unconscious complexes operate as autonomous patterns beneath awareness, the work approaches repetition not as imprisonment but as orientation. The mind circles back to familiar architectures of constraint even after the originating threat has dissolved. What was learned as survival becomes habit. The series honours the silenced memory of the Circassian Genocide of the 1860s and the Adyghe diaspora. *Generative art · 2026*
